Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Champs Gain 2009

Front Label

We produced this Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Champs Gain from Chardonnay vines with an age of nearly 30 years, superbly positioned with a south-east aspect high up on the slopes lying north-west of the fabled village of Puligny-Montrachet. The vines here are planted in shallow soils of crushed limestone scree, rich in minerals and iron. The growing season and the harvest conditions in 2005 were superb and the concentration, balance and ripeness of fruit were all excellent. Bottled after 14 months in barrel this is a wine of real purity, minerality and structure which we really hope that you will enjoy.

Tasting Notes

Pale gold, tinged through with green. Rich nose, with lots of lime and greengage fruit and hints of shortbread, cream, vanilla and toasted hazelnut.

On the palate a delicious hit of mouth watering acidity, really lifted and clean. Plenty of pure citrus elements in the mouth, lemon, lime and a trace of icing sugar. Delicious texture and good structure lead into a mid-palate which displays spicy ginger notes and hints of cream, toffee and vanilla. This is complex but so well defined, finishing long, smooth and fresh. Outstanding.
